“Look. We’re not French. We don’t surrender.” – U.S. Representative Pete Sessions (TX-32) (R) in front of World War II monument in Washington.

Pete Sessions is no stranger to controversy. In 2009, he said the Republican Party understood legislative “insurgency a little but more because of the Taliban”. In 2010, the same Pete Sessions said after watching a Princeton University basketball team “How often can you go see a bunch of white guys play basketball ?”.

When it comes to French Bashing however, Pete Sessions is not alone. Here is a selection of anti-French comments from other House and Senate Republicans, most date back to 2003.

  • Do you know how many Frenchmen it takes to defend Paris? It’s not known. It’s never been tried” –  Rep. Roy Blunt  (R-Missouri)
  • Somebody was telling me about the French Army rifle that was being advertised on eBay the other day — the description was, ‘Never shot. Dropped once” — Rep. Roy Blunt (R-Missouri)
  • France and Germany are losing credibility by the day, and they are losing, I think, status in the world,” – “They are walking a fine line that is very dangerous.” – Rep. Tom DeLay (R-Texas)
  • While many might be comfortable ignoring and even allowing France’s anti-American rants and maneuvers to continue, the reality is that this is a time of survival—and quite frankly I am tired of the United States being a punching bag to a second-rate country
  • Anything we can do to hurt them without hurting us, I will support” – Rep. Peter King (R-New York)
  • Co-sponsored a move to rename French Fries to Freedom Fries in a bid to protest France’s opposition to the war : Rep. Bob Ney (R-Ohio), Rep. Walter Jones (R-North Carolina), Rep. Jim Saxton (R-New Jersey)

  1. He’s desperate for attention, or just desperate…

Comments on WaPo are rather sensible and that’s a relief.

  2. I rather now feel so sorry for these neocons (it’s so funny in french, “neocons” means “new jerks” to stay courteous, ah ah ah).

Note though they get thrashed hardly in U.S. Presidential elections.

Do you think they ponder this and try to modify their strategies? Not at all. They are often fanatics convinced of their own superiority over everyone in the world that are not like them (???) and a fanatic doesn’t ponder.

He proclaims loudly cliches and caricatures.

This kind of guys – that would be better to refrain from passing IQ tests not to still deeper into the absurdity – must think he makes a heroic defense of his country by blocking the budget…

Damn, how this is possible to touch the bottom of what is pathetic, petty and ideologically caricatural and with the usual (oups, using “pavlovian” is better than “usual” here; it’s better with their level of “intelligence” and we don’t have even to teach them, it’s innate for them) use of anti-french cliches (certainly many others in different domains by definition)?!?

  3. Shutdown ends as Republicans demonstrate surrendering techniques, led by John Boehner. Mr. Sessions must be so proud! ROFL!!

  4. I just discovered another fake quote from a US general, that is now repeated in every sub-human US internet poster’s opus . General Schwarzkopf is supposed to have said “: Going to war without France is like going deer-hunting without an accordion”. Actually it’s a member of Bush’s gang of the time,a sub-secretary at Defense called Jed Babbin who said it . This is like the “famous” Gen. Patton’s quote ” I’d rather have a German division in front of me than a French one behind me” . Gen. Patton had fought with the French in WWI and had a thorough respect for French military . He never said such a thing . This “quote” was said by another Bush’s henchman, James Schlesinger, in a Fox News show ( of course ) . This US official made a deliberate lie against an allied country . I don’t know who initiated the Schwarzkopf’s one, but the result is the same : the Anglo bubble is full of it .
This kind of thing is impossible in a civilised country, dwelled by human beings . Anywhere in the western world out of the US, some people would do some research for a checking, and in the newspapers the lie would put its author to shame . It seems in America, as the majority knows nothing and as they believe like children everything they are told without even the idea of doing some personal investigation, any bastard can pretend any lie, and every sheep repeats the lie, the only criteria of truth being the number of people who believe it’s true .
